Clean Elections Commission: Arizonans, in an effort to reduce the bad influence of Big Money in state politics voted to create the method whereby so-inclined candidates could avoid the lure of special interest donors to fund their campaign.
In AZ ,candidates can choose to run as clean election candidates, meaning that if they meet the qualifications their campaign will paid for with public dollars. To qualify, candidates must not accept any donations from any corporation or special interest - PLUS - They MUST find 260 resident voters who are willing to contribute at least $5 to their campaign. In my case, if, and only if, I collect a minimum of $5 from 260 people will the state fund my campaign. Without these donations, for all intense and purposes there will be NO campaign. Presently, I have approx 125 donations, and it follows that I need an additional 135 donations.
